Sail into the Beagle Channel, with its intriguing marine life. Visit the Tierra del Fuego National Park for tundra, windswept plains and jagged mountains. Learn the tragic history of the indigenous Selk’nam, Yamana and Kaweskar people. Spot any of five species of penguin: Kings, Gentoos, Magellanic, Rockhoppers and Macaronis.

The second largest freshwater wetland on the planet, plants and trees grow on water hyacinth beds here. Remote and less visited, the locals or baqueanos are the guides. The abundant wildlife includes Capybara, Caiman, Giant Anteaters, Howlers, Anaconda, Maned Wolf, Otters and Jaguars. The Greater Rhea, different types of Herons, the Maguari Stork, various species of Eagles and indigenous birds are also found here. Walking, boat and horse trails are available.

In this unique 70,000-acre conservation ranch, Andean Condors soar high above, while Black and Red Legged Seriemas (Road Runners) flee as you approach. Night Jars, Crested Jays, Rufous Woodcreeper, Southern Crested Caracaras, Chachalacas, Hummingbirds and Spot Backed Puffbirds will be your fellow guests.

The largest colony of Magellanic Penguins is further south of Puerto Madryn at Punta Tombo, where the birds can be seen September to March. Go down the coast to Puerto Deseado to see Rockhopper Penguins, five types of Cormorants, Dolphins and Seals.

Mendoza is an all-seasons destination for climbers, hikers, skiers, rafters, bikers, naturalists and trekkers. In summer, the thermals and easterly winds make this destination ideal for paragliding. Ride up the Cerro Arco, choose tandem or solo and corre, corre (run) off the mountain edge.

Starting with Alpine style Bariloche, Patagonia is a haven for every type of outdoor activity. Think great empty spaces, Welsh themed settlements and spectacular scenery. The towns of Junín de los Andes, San Martín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura are bases for camping, hiking, horse riding and quad biking.

It’s right in the neighbourhood. Hit this legendary national park where Patagonian Steppes meet sub-polar forests. It is home to glaciers, rivers, lakes, Condors, Pumas, Guanacos and the endangered Chilean Huemul.
